Kurt Shickman, Senior Climate & Heat Resilience Consultant

FOR RELEASE ON JUNE 17, 2024

Westlake, OH – Pavement Technology, Inc. (PTI), a Westlake, Ohio-based business that has been partnering with public works agencies, research institutions, and environmental planners for over half a century to extend the life of America’s roadways, recently retained the services of Kurt Shickman, one of the country’s leading experts in “cool” construction materials, as a Senior Climate & Heat Resilience Consultant. Shickman is an environmental economist and a graduate of Johns Hopkins University who lives in Washington D.C.

PTI’s PlusTi™ family of carbon- and pollution-removal technology for roadways and airports significantly reduce the emissivity of pavement infrastructures, a factor that is critical in overcoming the Urban Heat Island effect (UHI), which adversely affects the health and well-being of our communities, particularly in densely populated urban areas.

The company’s PlusTi family of products increases a pavement’s Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) value by 300 to 400 percent, meeting LEED® and Envision credits for UHI mitigation.
Shickman has served as the Executive Director of the Global Cool Cities Alliance (GCCA) and is considered one of the country’s top heat resiliency experts. He also served as Director of Heat Initiatives at the Arsht-Rockefeller Foundation Resilience Center at the Atlantic Council and as Director of the Research, Climate & Energy Program at the United Nations Foundation.
