P a g e | 103 Roadway Microenviroment Sustainability The roadway microenvironment is NOT limited to pavement or pavement materials. It is a vibrant and active system. To tackle air pollution and climate change in the roadway microenvironment will require all vested parties involvement from the automotive and oil industries to the paving construction and maintenance industry and all upstream and downstream beneficiaries alike. We believe EPD, ENV, and ESG (Triple E’s) will meld together in short order. To meet the true definition of sustainability in the transportation industry will require a holistic and dynamic approach to systemic carbon and nitrogen reductions. The paving industry has more advantages in helping reach this goal than many believe.
